Astraphobia

This is another question that might have been designed to trap the unwary contestant. How many people, I wonder, answered "stars"?

An extreme or irrational fear of stars is known as siderophobia (from the Latin word for a star) or astrophobia. What pitfalls may lurk in a single letter!

The Greek word for lightning is astrape.

According to Wikipedia, astraphobia (fear of thunder or lightning) is also known as astrapophobia, brontophobia, keraunophobia, or tonitrophobia.

Brontophobia is more commonly defined as a fear of thunder, and so is tonitrophobia. Bronte is the Greek word for thunder (I wonder if the Haworth family knew that?); I can find no explanation for the derivation of the word 'tonitrophobia'.

Keraunophobia would seem to be a fear of both thunder and lightning.

I can only conclude with the thought that phobia questions are bad enough (as people have been saying for decades) without all these complications.
